CBSE faux pas takes sheen off student’s achievement

CHENNAI: G Gowtham Ragavendar of Nanganallur of south Chennai, who had his CBSE class X board examination goofed up thanks to a careless evaluator or an inefficient data entry operator, is now a happy lad.

“My son would have been denied admission in the science group in class XI even in his own school with a poor score of 57. Thankfully, in January itself we had applied to the Maharishi Vidya Mandir School in Chetpet on the basis of his half-yearly marks. Also, my son got 35% scholarship in an IIT-JEE coaching centre that has a tie up with the school, so he was given admission into the computer science group,” his father Govindaswamy said. “How can the CBSE commit such errors and then take 55 days to rectify the same?” asked Gowri. “At least in the future they must ensure that such discrepancies do not occur.”

Ragavendar is happy now, although he did miss out being feted when the results were declared: With his score of 490, he would have shared the unofficial second rank in Chennai with Jyotsna Venkatamoorthy Padmanabhan of Bhavan’s Rajaji Vidyashram.
