For own wards admission govt teachers turn to pvt schools

The process of fresh admissions to nursery, pre-nursery and LKG have started in different schools of the city. Parents are busy in completing the documents required to be submitted for these admissions. Some of these parents are also government school teachers who are leaving no stone unturned in getting their wards admitted to the schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Interestingly, these government school teachers prefer to serve in the government schools but are inclined to send their wards to the private ones. Requesting annonimity, a newly-appointed government school teacher said, “I have applied for my daughter’s admission to LKG in three schools. Let’s see what happens now .” When asked as to why she did not get admitted the child in a government school, she said, “The studies are not up to mark in the government schools. So I prefer the private ones.” While another teacher couple serving in a government school said, “The quality of education in private schools is much better than the government schools. Moreover, the students in majority of government schools come with medium IQ. So one does not get much confidence to compete.” A father of a three-and-a-half year old boy said, “It is better to serve in a government school as there is less burden as compared to private ones. But I personally feel that for educating own kids one should prefer private schools.” Commenting about this attitude of teachers from government schools, Amarjeet Kaur, District Education Officer(Primary), Ludhiana, said, “We always urge the teachers to get their own wards admitted in the government schools. Sometimes some teachers request me for getting posted in a nearby station and also promise that they would also get their own child admitted to that government school. But still some teachers prefer private schools for their wards.”
