Over 11000 school teachers posts vacant
The number of vacant posts for primary, middle English and middle schools in the State is 7,466 (primary), 2,824 (middle English) and 1,288 (middle). In addition, high schools and higher secondary schools had a vacancy of 3,409 and 579 respectively. This was revealed by Gautam Bora, Minister for Primary Education while answering a question by Ramendra Narayan Kalita (AGP) in the Assembly today.
The minister said that while the selection process for primary and middle schools was on, the same for assistant teachers of provincialized high and higher secondary schools was pending due to a High Court directive to that effect. The selection process for subject teachers for higher secondary schools was, however, on.
On the regularisation of the services of Operation Black Board (OBB) teachers, Bora said that the matter was being resolved as per High Court directives. To another question, he said that no financial assistance could be provided to non-provincialized primary, middle and high schools during 2007-08 as the selection process was incomplete. “The Government has not taken any decision on provincialization of primary, middle and high schools during 2008-09.
Ajanta Neog, Minister for Secondary Education, while replying to a question by Anwarul Haque (AUDF), told the House that following anomalies detected in some select lists prepared by different school selection committees, the State Level Approval Committee was scrutinizing the matter, and that the process of appointment would start once the committee completed its task.
To another question by Kamal Singh Narzary (BPF), Primary Education Minister Gautam Bora revealed that the total number of venture schools and colleges in the State was 16,249, the break-up being 8,591 primary schools, 4,737 middle English schools, 1,885 high schools, 185 higher secondary schools, 633 madrassas, 66 Sanskrit tols, and 152 colleges. “As of now, the Government does not have nay plan to provincialise these institutions,” he added.
